Skateboarding and scooters for all!
“This is awesome!” said Daisy, our secondary school student, about adapted skateboarding sessions that took place this week at Treloar’s.
On Tuesday, we welcomed Team Rubicon, the UK’s first and only nationwide provider of skateboard and scooter sessions for SEN pupils, to our school. Two groups of Treloar’s students enjoyed using scooters and skateboards during their PE lessons.
Suitable for disabled children of all ages and abilities, the activities are designed to engage and empower them – as well as improve their physical health and mental wellbeing. Our PE teachers and physiotherapists said that participating in sessions like this allows pupils to work on and improve their coordination skills; they are a perfect way to enrich PE lessons, providing children and young adults with completely different equipment to the one they use on a regular basis. What is more, our specialists highlighted the fact that during activities like this, our students feel empowered to try new things which helps enormously with building up their confidence and benefits their mental health.
“It felt amazing and weird at the same time because I haven’t done it before,” said Elodie who participated in the session.
Needless to say, the sessions brought a lot of fun and excitement into the school – both our students and staff had a wonderful time using the equipment provided by Team Rubicon.
“I did it!” Daisy exclaimed proudly while driving around on a scooter.

Thank you Team Rubicon for this amazing opportunity to experience something new and exciting!
