Students get creative for Livery company art competition
Every year, The Worshipful Company of Cooks very kindly sponsor awards at Treloar’s for cookery and kitchen skills. However, sadly with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic it was going to prove tricky this year.
The Worshipful Company of Cooks therefore very kindly agreed for Treloar’s to use the prizes for an art competition. Students were challenged to get creative and produce some artwork of their favourite food or meal and submit it for judging. The artwork could be created using any materials or media and students came up with some ingenious ideas to create their meals.
All students did a fantastic job and teaching staff at Treloar’s, together with Virginia Bond of The Worshipful Company of Cooks, were given the hard task of judging the competition. We are delighted to announce that the following students were the winners:
- School – joint winners – Alice Melville Ross and George White
- College – Daniel MacDougal
There was a £25 Amazon voucher for each of the winning School and College student’s entries and here are some pictures of them.
Alice made Roast Chicken from Play Doh. She used her communication device to communicate what food she wanted on the plate, what shapes to make everything in, where to place them on the plate and did some hand over hand shaping with her carer.
Just incredible!
George drew a tasty slice of pizza with a great selection of toppings.
Virginia commented – “The attention to detail with the bubbling of the surface during cooking and the cheese dripping off the edge takes it to another level. I can imagine picking this up and enjoying eating it.”
Daniel, the College winner, created his favourite meal which is breakfast.
On talking about his entry he said ”For this decoration, I used one Oatabix mixed with puréed fruits, for hair I used mandarin and a bit Oatabix, for the face I used banana custard, for the eyes I used a bit chocolate custard and for the mouth I used forest fruit custard. For this idea, I was supported by my class staff and I couldn’t wait to eat my breakfast afterwards. It was really delicious!”
Thank you to everyone who took part and to The Worshipful Company of Cooks for so kindly sponsoring the competition.
