Tennis for Treloar’s
We were thrilled when Alton Tennis Club responded to a recent letter from Treloar’s. We had written to sporting clubs, trying to build better links with the local sporting community and ATC picked up the mantel, deciding to organise a tennis charity day on Sunday 23rd June.
The event took the form of a round-robin mixed tournament for 16 players, where everyone got to play everyone else. The winners then decided by a single set final between the highest scoring players. The final ended up as Geoff Westall & Rosie Fitt v Ken McGowan & Gill Ward (pictured), with Geoff & Rosie emerging as the overall winners.
An excellent lunch was provided by all the players and the event was supported by club and family members. With entry fees, lunch contributions and a raffle, the total money raised for Treloar’s was £420 which will go towards their new Outdoor Learning Centre.
Laura Toop, Events Manager at Treloar’s attended the event and commented: “It was lovely to see members of Alton Tennis Club having a good time for Treloar’s. Thank you to everyone for attending and particularly to Ken for responding to our plea and organising the event.”
Alton Tennis Club is always looking for new members and is holding their annual open day on Sunday 7th July from 1-3pm. Please look at their website for further details: www.altontennisclub.org.uk
