Treloar College students collect donations for Ukraine
Treloar College students used their Community Skills time this week to collect donations to support Ukraine.
Last Wednesday the classes had PHSE lessons about Ukraine & Russia, and discussed the conflict.
Many of the students asked their tutors if there was a way to help and one of our College students rallied his peers to get involved. The College tutors and support assistants jumped into action, and found the nearest local collection point at the Alton Community Centre.
Raiding cupboards and wardrobes, the students collected donations from across College, including blankets, sleeping bags and essential toiletries.
In 24 hours students and staff collect over 4 trollies worth of items and on Friday morning they were delivered to the Alton Community Centre!
Coping with upsetting news
It is important that our students are well rounded and immersed in local and international cultures and affairs.
However, we are aware that for some, particularly people who are more anxious or who have learning disabilities, the news can be difficult to digest.
Our Therapy teams worked together to produce easy-read guides to accompany lessons and collections, that helped our students process the information and cope with the more distressing elements of the conflict.
It is vital that everyone can feel included in these important conversations and take an active part in their community, so if you think that someone you know could benefit from these resources, please do share them from our website here.
We’re really proud of our team for getting stuck in and working hard to put our students wishes into actions.
