Isobel’s work experience at Alton College

Isobel has just completed her work experience with Terry Saunders and Catherine Gearon from Aramark Catering, at HSDC Alton College that lasted six weeks. They worked with Isobel before she attended her regular sessions to determine what she hoped to learn and achieve from her time with them. As a result, the following weekly sessions were jointly decided:

Week 1- Ordering

Week 2- Invoicing

Week 3- Cash and Banking

Week 4- Choose Dish/Recipe/Product and plan execution

Week 5- Create marketing/advertising for final weeks product sale

Week 6- Product sale with Isobel’s marketing designs

Catherine Gearon from Aramark said: “Isobel was an absolute pleasure to work with and is a credit to Treloar’s. She embraced every session, engaged effortlessly with us, and we had lots of fun and giggles along the way.”

I thought that Catherine and Terry were really accommodating. I was blown away at how understanding they were of all my needs. I loved every minute of my work experience. Terry and Catherine wanted me to work as independently as possible, knowing when to step in or when to leave me to get on with the tasks. I learned new work skills and also my self-confidence grew which helped me to talk to unfamiliar people in a clearer voice. I liked the business side best, like ordering in goods, and I still want to explore working in the Food Industry for future employment. If possible I would like to do more work experience where I could further develop my work skills.

The benefits of carrying out work experience with the Aramark team have been numerous. Isobel has gained invaluable experience working with new people in an unfamiliar setting, demonstrating great adaptability and maturity in her approach to work. Isobel’s future aspiration is to start up her own business, and she will be able to make great use of these new and invaluable skills in the process. Terry and Catherine have supported Isobel incredibly well, always positive in their approach and fully engaged in helping Isobel achieve her goals.
