Volunteer Helpers
Voluntary Helpers make a huge difference to life at Treloar’s, helping in the classroom, in the Residential Houses, in administrative roles within departments and with social and sporting activities. If you can spare a few hours a week on a regular basis then we’d love to hear from you!
Why volunteer with us?
You can expect a number of benefits for volunteering with Treloar’s:
- Meeting new people
- Feeling valued and treated as part of the team
- Applying your particular skills or talents in a new environment
- Giving back to your community
- Excellent training opportunities
- The opportunity to develop skills and knowledge and build your CV
- The satisfaction of knowing you are providing support to Treloar’s and our students.
How to apply and next steps
We understand that your time is a precious commodity. We aim to make the process as timely as possibly to help you enter your role quickly:
Step 1: Review the current opportunities for a role that suits your skills and interests.
Step 2: Complete an Application Form.
Step 3: Treloar’s will contact you if a suitable role is available.
Step 4: Take part in an informal discussion at Treloar’s with the Volunteers Co-ordinator and/or Head of Department of your interest. This visit will give you the opportunity to see the site, meet our staff and ask questions.
Step 5: By mutual agreement a decision will be made for you to undertake the volunteering role.
Step 6: At this stage, we will ask you to complete a DBS form. There is no cost to you when applying for a DBS check. You will not be able to start until the DBS Certificate has been viewed by an appropriate member of staff (this can take up to 8 weeks). You will also need to provide proof of identity and relevant references. However, during the waiting period you may be able to undertake the required training.
Step 7: You will complete an Induction Programme including required training and receive appropriate information prior to commencing.
It will take approximately one to two months from the time you submit an application to beginning your Voluntary Helper role. Upon beginning your role, you will be provided with the necessary support from the Volunteer Co-ordinator and/or supervisor. Always remember that if you have any questions, just ask!
