Paralympian Patrons and Team Ambassadors visit Treloar’s
May was an exciting month for Treloar’s students: there were Coronation activities, a theatre trip, National Nurse Day celebrations and explorations of new term topics by Treloar School students.
However, the most exciting moments for many were the visits paid by Treloar’s Patrons and Team Ambassadors Martin Sinclair and David Smith OBE.
At the beginning of May, Treloar’s Team Fire students spent a morning with their Team Ambassador, David Smith OBE. David is also Treloar’s alumnus and Britain’s most successful boccia player so this really was a special occasion for our students.
David led a series of coaching sessions together with our PE team, giving tips and advice, followed by a boccia match. He finished his visit with a talk, sharing stories about his life and achievements and answering questions from students.
Two weeks later, retired England and Great Britain Cerebral Palsy football player and Cerebral Palsy Sport Ambassador, Martin Sinclair came to Treloar’s. Former Treloar’s employee and Team Earth Ambassador, Martin, together with Treloar’s PE Team, led a day of inclusive, football-themed activities which was open to all School students.
Thank you to both David and Martin for spending time with our students, motivating and inspiring them.
The PE Team at Treloar’s works hard to ensure that our curriculum offers every student a wonderful experience that is rewarding and fun, but which also promotes good physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Treloar’s Team Ambassadors help to inspire our students to be as physically active and independent as possible while enjoying a number of sporting activities.
Later this term, we will welcome our fourth Ambassador, Ali Smith—Paralympic sprinter and also a former Treloar’s employee; Ali will spend the morning with Team Air.
Our thanks to all our Ambassadors, Suzanna Hext, Martin Sinclair, Ali Smith and David Smith OBE for their amazing help and support. It is immensely impactful to our students to spend time with successful role models, hearing about their journeys and achievements. They show our students that sports are for everyone, regardless of ability, increasing their confidence and hopefully inspiring the next generation of Paralympians!
