Treloar’s welcome London Irish Foundation back to campus
We’re thrilled to welcome back Ben, Inclusion Officer at premiership rugby club London Irish.
Ben works for the club’s charity Foundation and is determined to support our students in enjoying rugby. He is working hard to make rugby accessible to all.
London Irish have been visiting us for rugby sessions for 3 years, but sadly Covid-19 put a hold on this and we’ve been missing our rugby!
Kim, our Sports Coach who has been with us for nearly 20 years, admits that at first she was a little concerned the usual programme wouldn’t be able to meet the needs of our student. But was thrilled to get Ben back on campus recently.
Kim says “Ben has been brilliant in adapting his sessions for our classes and ensuring all abilities can take part – meaning they can enjoy a sport we couldn’t offer before. We are really pleased to have London Irish back on our campus supporting our students.”
Ben himself lives with disabilities and after a tricky start in life, is now determined to “give to others what he didn’t have as a child.”
The Foundation’s mission is to use the power of sport to make a lasting, positive impact on individuals’ lives and we can certainly see that at play on our campus.
We went down to meet Ben and see him at work with our students. And whilst you may not see them playing high contact rugby, the smiles on their faces show you how much our students enjoy their adapted version.
Ben says; “It is an honour to be here” and “a pleasure to work with Treloar’s.”
We’re so pleased to have him back here and once again be able to offer wheelchair rugby as part of our PE programme.
