Windward Day Services
About us
We offer opportunities to access the community and spend time enjoying activities that you love from our four locations in Chandlers Ford (Thrive), Netley Marsh (Windward), Ringwood (Spiral Blue) and Verwood (Helix). You can also join us virtually from anywhere via our ‘Click’ service on Zoom too. We welcome anyone with a learning disability and or people who are autistic. Together we create an environment where it’s easy to make friends in a vibrant atmosphere where you are seen, heard and valued for the wonderful person you are.
Referral and Funding:
If you have a learning disability and you can get on in a group, want to access our service and are over 16 you can refer yourself, be referred by family, carers, social workers, community nurses etc. Everyone has different routes to finding us but most people are funded by adult services, either directly or with personalised budgets, self-directed support, in-control money or direct payments. To start the ball rolling please call us and together we can arrange a visit followed by a free taster session (half a day, whole day or a small series of visits if it takes a little longer to settle in).
Staffing:
We aim to provide staffing of 4:1 for our usual daily rate. If you have higher support needs at different times of the day, or for the whole day we can provide you with 1:1 support. We are also very happy to accommodate you and your external support worker.
All of our staff have appropriate training including First Aid, Safeguarding & MCA, Moving & Handling, Positive behaviour support and Hampshire County Councils ‘Safe Handling & Administration of Medication’ training. People who are new to our service will have a medication needs assessment when they start so we will find out everything we need to know to offer the right support.
We try to have a diverse staff team with a balance of younger and more mature people, and men and women.
Days and times of opening:
We are open every week day, except for bank holidays. Our usual hours are 9.30 to 3.30 but some people come to us for half a day, either in the morning or afternoon. We don’t want to be seen as just a day service and so if you think we can meet any needs outside of these times please talk to us about it. For example we have some weekend events including ‘Project Saturday’, parties, family/carer get togethers as well as providing regular social evenings.
Transport:
We can’t promise to offer transport but if we can do it, we will. We charge for mileage and staff time.
What else do we do?
We aim to offer everyone the chance of coming on holiday every year. Our holidays have grown due to their success. In the past we have been to Butlins, Caravan parks, City breaks, Thorpe Park, West End shows, Dr Who Tour, Cruises and Skiing. Everyone has a fantastic time and come back feeling tired but very happy. We can also offer 1:1 work outside of our centres to work on life skills or anything else you feel you need.
